my artwork

my inspiration is born of my interaction of the natural world; and things in their purest and wildest forms. I prefer to do many things as much as possible in the "old way" using as few tools a possible - dyeing with natural things like tea and coffee, sewing all things by hand and painting with my hands as well as experimenting with 'found objects' to create textures . . .
I live in a small city - but there are wild places to be found everywhere if you look - go to a park and crawl underneath a huge pine tree, lay on your back and look up - you'll see what I mean.
When I take photographs these are the places I seek . . .
but for now - this is just a page of a few things I have created with my hands
the world is much more than it seems . . .dare to dream
(seven years of dreams)
The Sky People
The Jaguar God
inspired by an amazing thunderstorm
Turtle Moon
this represents
the cycles of the moon and the turtle as mother earth
it is a "feminine" piece showing the thirteen moons cycle
and the sea turtles comeing from the water and turning into birds in the sky
The Coyote
this is a very personal piece
a painting I did with my hands and completed in one night
the moving of one life to another
and my lesson from the Coyote
Crow Shield
necklace &
medicine bag
Medicines
a note that I would like to include about the "medicines"
These are highly respected and natural creations gifted by animals.
All of my medicines were either gifted to me by Native Elders - or the pieces of which that I created for ceremonial use and healing.
the animals who gave these medicines were found - had died of natural causes, electrical fence casualties, hit by cars, or in one case - a friend of mine found an owl - very unfortuneatly shot and left by some one ---and brought him to me for a ceremonial burial.
I have probably buried a hundred animals and done ceremonies for them - but rarely took a feather or wing . . .most of what I have has been gifted by Elders bringing me the animals (or portions) to bury, pray for and to create cermonial pieces with.

Medicines and Regalia
woman's bone breast plate; red tail hawk wing; white horse medicine bag, deer skin eagle feather bag

Owl Medicine
and healing rattle
My personal regalia
Crow medicine ghost shirt and prayer stick (also would carry crow wing fan not shown here)
I made these 10 years ago . . .I no longer attend pow wows or follow the native traditions that strickly - although maintain a high respect for the medicines.
Shield
I must admit some humor put into this piece
with the winking cat in the middle
this is a Year Celebration Shield
and as I did this many years ago - it might reflect me best - dancing to my own drum with a blend of the native and pagan images marking the different dirrectios.
It was a fun piece done on wood and had some fun mixing paint with wood stains for the different colors and textures
Smithing
I only have a few pieces of my smithing work - as I have given many away - these were done in the traditional Zuni methods
Embroidery
I think embroidery was one of the first things I learned to do as a little girl and I still love stitching and sewing everything by hand. Again, I've given much of my embroidery away - this is the only piece I have - done more than 20 years ago.
